Nice job on my sidewalk, it's the only one on the block that is clear...!!

What to Expect for Winter 2019 Snow Removal Service in Calgary

Calgary gets an average of 7-10 days of snowfall per month during the winter. We're not called the great white north for nothing! Last year we had a record amount of snow at the beginning and end of the season. We're still bouncing between the warmer El Nino and the La Nina cycle which can cause unpredictable snowfalls.  La Nina is a general cooling of the pacific ocean and moves the flow of the jet stream to give us winters with higher snowfall and cooler conditions. This year the El Nino cycle is supposed to strengthen compared to last year (warmer then normal pacific ocean temperatures) which can give us warmer than normal conditions but can also cause higher precipitation due to increased evaporation off the coast. Perhaps unlike most people we're excited for a busy snow removal season in Calgary! After all we do provide snow removal services.

Every year our crew starts preparing for the snow removal season to start by October 15th. It's a flurry of activity to get all of our trucks and equipment serviced and ready to go. Any new staff members are trained by our experienced veterans and the routes start getting assembled. All of our equipment is outfitted with Poly blades which means less wear and tear on your surfaces through the winter.

The snow clearing season in Calgary runs until the end of April. We often receive the heaviest wet snowfalls late in the year. The kind that not every snow removal service can handle. But we have proven equipment and the majority of our staff members have been with us for over 5 years and have seen it all. On a usual day of snow removal in Calgary our team hits the road by 6 am. We bundle up for days when it gets as low as -30 C but sometimes end up in just tshirts and toques. Pushing snow is steamy work! On heavy days our team is often going for 12 hours straight.

Calgary is a big city and that means snow removal service can vary widely depending on the quadrant. NW Calgary and SW Calgary are pushed up against the foothills so they often see the worst snow from storms tracking down from the north. The winds push up against the hills and as they rise they lose an increasing amount of their moisture leaving large amounts of snow behind. In SE Calgary and NE Calgary snow fall events that track over the mountains tend to be the heaviest. When the jump the mountains the west side is often spared, while a heavy line of snow can extend across the eastern half of the city.

No matter where you live, you can rest easy knowing we track conditions across the city and will be sure to keep your property free of snow and ice all season long. We'll update you on every snowfall with our email alerts and you can reach the office by email or at 403-239-1269 if you ever have any questions.

We look forward to helping you with our snow removal services this season. All the best to you and yours for this snowy season, take care and be safe!
